About BAFT

Build A Future Together.

BAFT was born out of robust research into the housing and life-chance barriers facing young people in Kirklees. Our work is rooted in practical action, community leadership and long-term local benefit.

Our story

Why BAFT exists

Build A Future Together CIC (BAFT) was born out of a programme of robust research, which identified that a large proportion of young people from impoverished areas across Kirklees will struggle to buy their own home or acquire good quality housing.

This can have a major impact on future life chances, including raising stable families, self-belief and pride, mental health, resilience and long-term opportunity.

Our identity

The BAFT vision

Our logo reflects a practical, community-first mission: creating stronger homes, stronger local spaces and better routes forward for local people.

Community self-build

What it means in practice

Community self-build can take a number of forms, but the common thread is people organising together to create the homes, spaces and communities they want.

  • A building site where people are trained and organised to work together collectively on homes.
  • A neighbourhood group setting up a project as a low-cost route to helping local young people get onto the housing ladder.
  • A group of community members creating an intentional community with shared living spaces.
  • A community group rejuvenating old or derelict buildings into community centres or valued local spaces.
